How billing and order limits work on Shopify
No external billing portals, no surprise overage charges, and no long-term lock-in.

How protected orders are counted
Only orders that include the shipping protection product count toward the Starter plan's 50-order monthly limit. Regular orders without protection never count. The counter resets on the first day of each UTC calendar month.

What happens at 50 orders on Starter
Sam emails you when you reach 80% (40 protected orders) and 100% (50 protected orders). Once you hit 50, the protection widget hides for the rest of the month until the counter resets or you upgrade. You are never auto-charged.

Questions about plans, trials and billing
Does Sam take a percentage of the shipping protection fees I collect?
No. You keep 100% of the shipping protection fees your customers pay on every plan — Starter, Standard and Plus. Sam charges only a flat subscription ($0 on Starter, $9/month on Standard, or $29/month on Plus), billed through Shopify.
How much do I save with yearly billing?
Yearly billing saves up to 17% compared with monthly billing. The Standard plan drops from $9/month ($108.00/year) to $89.90/year ($7.49/month equivalent). The Plus plan drops from $29/month ($348.00/year) to $289.90/year ($24.16/month equivalent).
What counts toward the 50-order limit on the free Starter plan?
Only orders that actually contain the shipping protection line item count toward the 50 protected orders per month limit. If your store processes 300 orders in a month and 45 shoppers add shipping protection, you stay within the free Starter plan.
What happens if I exceed 50 protected orders on the Starter plan?
Sam never upgrades or charges you automatically. We send a heads-up email at 80% usage and another when you reach 50 protected orders. At 50 protected orders, the storefront protection widget pauses until the next UTC month starts or you upgrade to Standard or Plus.
How does the 7-day free trial work?
When you choose Standard or Plus in your Shopify admin, Shopify starts a 7-day free trial. If you downgrade to the free Starter plan or uninstall the app before the 7 days end, you are not billed.
Do I need the Plus plan if I am not on Shopify Plus?
Most non-Plus stores only need Standard ($9/month), which unlocks unlimited protected orders, price tiers by cart value, auto-fulfill, order tagging, claim status emails, translations, extended warranties and the tracking page. Choose Plus ($29/month) if you are on Shopify Plus and want the checkout page extension, or if you need country targeting, minimum cart value visibility, or min/max caps on percentage pricing.
Can I preview paid widget layouts on the free Starter plan?
Yes. You can preview all four cart widget layouts (Standard, Minimal, Expanded and Detailed) inside the Sam admin on the Starter plan. Starter stores can publish Standard and Minimal; upgrading to Standard or Plus lets you publish Expanded and Detailed on your storefront.
Can I use a discount code when subscribing?
Yes. On the Pricing Plans page inside the Sam admin, click "Subscribe with discount code" beneath Standard or Plus, enter your promo code, and approve the discounted charge in Shopify.
