Attach rate
Attach rate: The share of orders that add shipping protection: protected orders divided by all orders over the same period.
How do you calculate it?
Attach rate = protected orders ÷ all orders. If 420 of 1,000 orders this month added protection, the attach rate is 42%.
What moves it?
- Placement: offers next to the cart subtotal are easier to see.
- Wording: a clear line such as “Protect my order from loss, damage and theft”.
- Price: higher fees usually lower the attach rate.
- Default state: auto-added protection raises it, but must be clearly optional.
Why it matters
Protection revenue is orders × attach rate × average fee, so attach rate is one of the three levers you control.
