Auto-add
Auto-add: A setting that adds shipping protection to eligible carts by default, leaving the customer free to remove it before paying.
Why do stores use it?
Pre-selected protection raises the share of customers who keep it, because many shoppers leave defaults as they are. That lifts attach rate and protection revenue.
How do you keep it fair?
- Show the fee and what it covers before payment.
- Label it as optional and make it one click to remove.
- Never present it as a required charge.
Regulators are paying attention to fees, so transparency matters. This is not legal advice; check the rules where you sell.
Example
A cart opens with “Order protection (+$1.98)” switched on and a visible remove toggle. A customer who does not want it switches it off in one tap before checkout.
