Shipping insurance

How does it work?

You add coverage to a shipment, either when you buy the label or through a policy covering many shipments. If the parcel is lost or damaged, you file a claim with evidence such as tracking and proof of value, and the insurer or carrier pays you.

How is it different from shipping protection?

Shipping insurance pays the merchant back, often after a wait. Shipping protection is a fee the customer chooses to pay so the store fixes their order fast. Many stores use both: protection for every order, insurance for high-value parcels.

Example

A jeweler insures a $900 necklace when buying the label. The parcel is lost; the jeweler reships right away and files an insurance claim to recover the cost.
