Sam and Corso both let shoppers add protection at checkout, but they split the work very differently. Corso runs claims for you: its Concierge team resolves every protected claim, funded by the protection fees. Sam gives you the tools to run your own program: you keep the fee and decide each claim.
Listing data was checked on the Shopify App Store, and Corso’s model on its own website, on October 5, 2026. Sam is our app, so we stick to published facts about Corso.
How does Corso shipping protection work?
Corso describes protection as part of a full post-purchase platform that also covers returns, exchanges, warranties, order tracking and analytics. On its shipping protection page, Corso says:
- Checkout adds a removable line item, so the program is “funded by the customers who use it”.
- “Each claim is funded from protection fees collected, not your operating margin.”
- “Concierge resolves every protected claim”: reorders, refunds and escalations, under your brand.
Corso does not publish how much of the fee, if any, stays with the merchant. It is free to install on the App Store, with pricing on its own site. Its listing launched in September 2023 and shows 4.9★ from 20 reviews; it does not carry the Built for Shopify badge.
How does Sam work?
Sam Shipping Protection adds a protection offer to the cart, cart drawer and thank-you page, and to checkout on Shopify Plus. The fee goes to your store with your Shopify payouts. Customers file claims on your branded claims page, and you resolve them with a full or partial refund, store credit or a reorder. Sam is free for 50 protected orders a month, then $9/month for unlimited orders, or $29/month with the Plus checkout extension.

How do you switch from Corso to Sam?
- Pull 90 days of lost, damaged and stolen orders to set your fee; our guide on how much to charge shows the math.
- Install Sam, choose your placements and pricing, and publish your protection policy.
- Add Sam’s claims page and decide who on your team reviews claims each day.
- Turn off Corso’s protection line item so customers see one offer.
- Keep Corso for orders it already protects until those claims close.
Which should you choose?
Choose Corso if you want a team to handle every protected claim for you, and you also want returns, warranties and tracking on one platform.
Choose Sam if you want to keep the protection fee as revenue, decide claims under your own rules, and pay a flat, predictable app cost.
If you already handle customer service in-house, the self-funded model often fits; our guide on self-funded vs third-party shipping protection walks through the trade-offs. For more options, see the best shipping protection apps, or start with the shipping protection guide.
